"Ireland's most active genealogical society"
“Ireland’s most active genealogical organisation”
We have a core group of very active volunteers who give of their time to keep the Society vibrant and active. We always welcome volunteers who can contribute to that activity. It is a great way to meet like-minded members and create new friendships, while always advancing one’s knowledge about genealogy.
Morning Open Meetings
On the 4th Wednesday each month (except December) the society holds a morning meeting at 11.00am. This is an opportunity for members, potential members and members of the general public to meet, to discuss relevant matters. There is usually no formal agenda. Normally Coffee and biscuits are served but in recent times these meeting have been held online via zoom, see our Social Media chanels for details.
Lectures
On the second Tuesday each month the society hosts a lecture on a subject of interest to members. Details of upcoming and previous lectures will be found via our Social Media channels, these talks are currently being held over Zoom, and include international speakers and audience.
Advice and Research
We provide a research and advice service on Wednesdays and on Saturday afternoons in our Archive and research centre in Loughlinstown.
New system is place for research centre due to Coronavirus restrictions – see latest update.
We undertake research activities and projects from time to time
Outreach
We do not confine our activities within our own organisation.
We are regularly invited to support the activities of other kindred organisations, by providing lecturers, by providing a genealogy help and advice desk.
We also participate in shows such as “Back to our past” and/or in support of TV, radio and other media
We provide articles to magazines, ezines, and other websites on genealogy-related matters
